Missions

Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you, Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbor in your land.  Deuteronomy 15:11

Reflecting the words of the founder of the Methodist movement, John Wesley, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church believes the “world is her parish”.  The church supports numerous missions both in its local area and throughout the world  through the spiritual resource of prayer, volunteers and funding.  The church attempts to meet all of its United Methodist apportionment obligations and thus joins its gifts with nearly 10 million other United Methodists for a far greater impact than any one congregation could possibly have alone.  Through these apportionments and other United Methodist avenues of giving various missions are supported such as: missionaries stateside and abroad, disaster relief through UMCOR, Africa University in Zimbabwe, 100's of United Methodist Colleges and Universities, chaplaincy support for US military, agencies of help and mercy throughout the US, hospitals and orphanages.  Globally, the church also has partnered with the Lazarus Project to help the poorest of the poor in Haiti.

Through the Western North Carolina Annual conference the church supports ministries such: UMC Deaf Ministries, United Methodist Agency for the Retarded, the Bethlehem Center serving inner city Charlotte, Cambodian mission, Winston Salem Children's home, numerous retirement homes, Rural Affordable housing and disaster relief.

At Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, we believe that to be fully mobilized as disciples we must reach the world not only with the Good News of Jesus Christ, but also with acts of mercy and justice locally, nationally, and throughout the world.  Mt. Zion mobilizes disciples through its expectation that each person in the church be affiliated with at least one outreach project.  There are many ways to become involved in being the “hands and feet” of Christ,  from helping to build a Habitat for Humanity house to providing snacks for the after-school program at the Ada Jenkins Center.  Find details about each of our current outreach projects by clicking Local, National, or International Missions below or to the left.

Is the Holy Spirit leading you to consider beginning a new area of outreach at Mt. Zion?  If so, please contact Dana Bolch, Mt. Zion's Outreach (Mission) Chairperson, by email at ddanabanana@aol.com.World Outreach

Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?" And the king will answer them, "Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me." - Matthew 25:37-40
