“When in our music, God is glorified."

The Music and Arts Ministry at Mount Zion seeks to provide opportunities for all ages to offer their artistic gifts, develop their skills, and grow together in faith through fellowship and worship.

We Welcome You to Join Us!

We are always open to the leading of the Spirit, and we seek to make full use of the gifts of those among us.  If you would enjoy participating in any of our current music areas or in an ensemble that we do not offer, we are eager to expand our offerings to match the gifts of our church family.  Additional information about the music and creative arts ministry may be obtained by contacting Shelley Little, Director of Music Ministries at slittle@mtzionumc.net.

       Choir in New York

In November of 2018, the Chancel Choir members were invited to participate in a concert series under the direction of arranger/composer Pepper Choplin at Carnegie Hall in New York.  It was an unforgettable trip, and we look forward to another opportunity in the future to once again share this experience.  After the first trip, the invitation is open to return anytime, so we will certainly go back.

Praise Team

The Sunday morning 9:45 Services, which are held in the Family Life Center, are blessed with music presented by our Praise and Worship Team, under the direction of Melanie Kalkan. This ministry is perfect for adults and youth interested in participating in a contemporary music setting. The Praise Team occasionally joins the Chancel Choir in the Sanctuary for special services throughout the year.

Hand Bells

The Hand Bell Choir rings for the congregation in the spring, fall and during the Christmas season.  Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings at 5:30 a few months prior to our performances.  Feel free to come observe a rehearsal if you are interested in this ministry, and there is always room for new members. Email slittle@mtzionumc.net if you are interested.

Testify Youth Choir is a community choir consisting of youth ages 6th-12th grade. The group rehearses on Sunday afternoons under the direction of Melanie Kalkan. Testify is a wonderful ministry for teens, and the group presents special programs throughout the year at Mount Zion and other area churches. They also plan an annual week long tour each summer to minister outside of our area.

Music and arts camp

During the summer break from school, a Music and Arts Camp is offered for children in our community. During the camp, children participate in learning to sing upbeat songs and play percussion instruments. They learn bible verses through daily devotions, participate in recreational activities and do art projects. Children do not have to be members of Mount Zion to participate.

Babygarten was designed by two librarians who were concerned that young children might not be receiving the exposure to language needed to become competent readers. The ages for this group range from newborns through two years old.  Babygarten is much more than a play group! Infants and their caregivers share songs, nursery rhymes, books and occasional crafts. Each class concludes with a free play period and opportunity for caregivers to share with each other.  The 45 minute sessions are offered for 8 weeks on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m.  Stay tuned for dates for the next session.
