The Music and Arts Ministry at Mount Zion seeks to provide opportunities for all ages to offer their artistic gifts, develop their skills, and grow together in faith through fellowship and worship.
We Welcome You to Join Us!
We are always open to the leading of the Spirit, and we seek to make full use of the gifts of those among us. If you would enjoy participating in any of our current music areas or in an ensemble that we do not offer, we are eager to expand our offerings to match the gifts of our church family. For additional information about the music and creative arts ministry, contact Shelley Little, Director of Music Ministries at slittle@mtzionumc.net.
CHancel Choir
The adult music program at Mount Zion reflects the church's love for music, as adults and youth have the opportunity to help lead worship through music at the traditional 11:00 a.m. worship services on Sunday mornings. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. to prepare for the Sunday morning services. We are so blessed to have such a faithful choir, and we would love to have you join us!
Choir in New York
In November of 2018, the Chancel Choir members were invited to participate in a concert series under the direction of arranger/composer Pepper Choplin at Carnegie Hall in New York. It was an unforgettable trip, and we look forward to another opportunity in the future to once again share this experience.
Praise Team
The Sunday morning 9:45 Service is blessed with music presented by our Praise Team, under the direction of Melanie Kalkan. This ministry is perfect for adults and youth interested in participating in a contemporary music setting. The Praise Team occasionally joins the Chancel Choir in the Sanctuary for special services throughout the year.
Hand Bells
The Hand Bell Choir rings for the congregation in the spring, fall and during the Christmas season. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings at 5:30 a few months prior to our performances. Feel free to come observe a rehearsal if you are interested in this ministry, and there is always room for new members. Email slittle@mtzionumc.net if you are interested.
Music and arts camp
During the summer break from school, a Music and Arts Camp is offered for children in our community. During the camp, children participate in learning to sing upbeat songs and play percussion instruments. They learn bible verses through daily devotions, participate in recreational activities and do art projects. Children do not have to be members of Mount Zion to participate.
