Immediately prior to being appointed to Mount Zion, he served as the senior pastor of the American Protestant Church of The Hague, The Netherlands. While there, he was privileged to attend numerous global conferences and engage in ministry with diplomats, business executives and specialists in international law. Mike has also served churches in Georgia, Tennessee and California varying in setting and size, from small rural churches to large multi-staff institutions. In 1991 the United Methodist Publishing House awarded Mike one of the 3 Circuit Rider awards offered nationally for “development of vital congregations and faithful disciples”. Mike is married to Lauralee Bailey (née Davis) formerly of Burlington, North Carolina. They have 4 children: Michael, Jr. with Google Corporation in Mountain View California; Ian with Octagon Sports Marketing, Huntersville; Carrie a recreational therapist in Denver, Colorado; and Anna who is a student at Emory & Henry College in Virginia. Mike received his bachelor’s degree from Lambuth University and studied at Vanderbilt University Divinity School from 1978 until 1981. He received his Master of Divinity degree from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California in 1984. Recently, he completed the class room phase of his doctoral degree in Atlanta, Georgia. Mike has been in several specialized training programs including, The Academy for Preaching, The Arrow Leadership Program, The Reynolds Program for Church Leadership, the Reynolds LEAD Academy and is currently in the Duke Spirited Life program.
Heavily involved in the local community Mike has served on the boards of the following: Lake Norman YMCA, North Mecklenburg Rotary Club, Lake Norman United Way, Little Smiles Children’s Charity, Ada Jenkins Center, and Hospice and Palliative Care-Charlotte Region. In addition he has served as Chaplain of the Loch Norman Highland Games. |

Prior to his appointment to Cornelius, Rev. Reimer was a full time student at Duke Divinity School from 2003-2006. During his years there he was fortunate to take part in two wonderful field education experiences. The first was a summer spent as a missionary in Lithuania working with the Methodist Church in the areas of humanitarian aid to the poor, children's ministry, prison ministry, and preaching and leading services. The second experience was spent doing CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. That summer he was a chaplain assigned to different floors of the hospital. Prior to living in North Carolina, Rev. Reimer grew up in Green Bay, WI and was a member at First United Methodist Church-Green Bay, part of the Wisconsin Conference. During his time in Wisconsin, he was a youth volunteer at his church and led mission teams to Lithuania to their partner church. Tim married a local girl, Katie (Faucette) from Davidson, NC while a student at Duke in 2005 and joined the Western North Carolina Conference. While at Duke, he became a huge Duke Basketball fan, but he does remain a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan as well! He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in 2002. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School in 2006. Tim and Katie have 2 sons, Owen and Eli, and a black Lab named Coleman.

Jill has been a part of Mt. Zion since 2003 and was ordained in the UMC in 2000. This was also the year she graduated with an MDIV from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Charlotte NC. Jill is active in the Central Carolinas Emmaus, Chrysalis and Epiphany Communities and volunteers within the community where she lives. For many years she worked for an international missionary sending agency at their Charlotte office. Jill has a teaching ministry at church and does group retreats with personal reflections and Bible teaching. Her story focuses on the Grace of God and healing in the midst of painful circumstances. Jill received a BS in Sociology in 1982 from Gordon College, Wenham Massachusetts. She has lived in 8 of the states on the Eastern seaboard from Southern Florida to Southern Maine. She likes the central part of North Carolina the best. Married to Wayne for 30 years, they have two grown sons, who are native Charlotteteans and still live nearby. She loves large breed dogs (she has a collie), traveling, good coffee, soccer (real futbol) and reading. |

Marcy is responsible for the music ministry program at Mount Zion. Prior to coming to Mount Zion, Marcy was Director of Worship Arts and Programming at Saint Luke's United Methodist in Memphis Tennessee. She has extensive experience in higher education in vocal and choral music and in academic administration. Dr. Mittelstadt has a Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence University in Appleton WI., a Master of Music in vocal performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Doctor of Musical Arts in vocal performance and sacred music from the University of Memphis. Marcy has been active in Memphis Conference district music events, adjudication for solo and ensemble competitions in Wisconsin and Tennessee and in PEO.

![]() ![]() Sherry Washam Christian Educator Sherry WashamChristian Educator 704-892-8566 | email Sherry Washam is the Christian Educator of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius. Some of her responsibilities include Sunday School classes for children, youth and adults with a special focus in children’s ministries. Through her many years at Mt. Zion, her joy is the special relationships with the children and youth of our church family that have developed through Sunday School, summer camps, VBS, retreats and fun times. Sherry is an active member of the National Christian Educators Fellowship, the Western North Carolina Conference Christian Educators Fellowship, and the Lake Norman District CEF. She is also a part of Amigos de Cristo, which provides a summer VBS and a tutoring program for children of Latino background in the North Mecklenburg area.
Sherry received an education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is married to John M. “Richard” Washam.

He graduated from Appalachian State University in 2003 where he received a BS degree in Recreation Management specializing in Outdoor Education and a minor in Psychology. After graduation, Matt served as the rock climbing and mountain biking resource for a summer at United Methodist Camp Tekoa in Hendersonville, NC. It was here where Matt was asked to serve as the interim youth director at Mt. Zion during a transitional period in the youth ministry. Mt. Zion decided to offer Matt the full time position and he has been here ever since. Matt later went back to school and earned a Masters in Christian Education degree with a specialization in Youth Ministries from Pfeiffer University.
Matt is the son of Bryan and Vicki and brother of Will, Ben, and Patrick. Matt is a native of Cornelius and currently lives there with his dog, Boone. |

Zion United Methodist Church. Before coming to Sonshine Preschool, she was a teacher in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School District for 5 years. She worked for two years as the Operations Manager of Carter and Associates ONCOR also in Winston-Salem. She volunteered as the Assistant Coordinator for Community Bible Study. Ms. Becky also taught preschool at Sonshine Preschool before accepting the Director’s position in 2008. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Furman University in South Carolina. Becky is married to Robert Metzger and they have three children: Emma, Katelyn and Tyler. |

Melanie is from this area, growing up in Cornelius and graduating from North Mecklenburg High School. She then received a Bachelor degree in Music Education from Appalachian State University. Melanie is currently the choral director at Mooresville Senior High School. She has served in a few churches including Mt. Zion in the early 2000's and most recently Grace Covenant Church. Married to Ismail, together they have a son, Aiden, born in 2010. Melanie loves the beach, traveling and spending time with her family. |

Margaret Langston is Treasurer and Office Manager of Mt Zion United Methodist Church, having served as Treasurer since 2004 and as Office Manager since 2000. Prior to moving to the area in 1992, Margaret lived in Greensboro and held the position of Systems Support Manager for Retail Data Solutions, Inc. After moving to Huntersville, she worked at a local private school as a pre-K teacher, and then as Director for five years. Margaret has been working at Mt Zion United Methodist Church since 1998 and enjoys teaching a children's Sunday School class and volunteering at an assisted living center. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development & Family Relations with K-3 certification from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is currently pursuing Church Business Administrator Certification. Margaret is married to John D. Langston and they have one daughter, Courtney.
